Hey. So I've been getting bvored with the music I've been listening to lately, so can anyone suggest any good hard rock, Power metal, or alternative rock badns to try? Thanks!

I have a lot of suggestions, really. Not sure what you're into, but most these bands ware some of my favorites in the genres. A lot, really. I don't have time to really tell you why I love a lot of these bands, but here's a quick list:

Shadow Gallery

Sonata Arctica

Nightwish

Pain of Salvation

Within Temptation

Van Canto (for something really quite unique)

Trans Syberian Orchestra,

ayreon,

Avantasia

Poets of the Fall

Epica

After Forever

Kamelot

Falcconer

I hope you will enjoy some of them. The nice thing is we now have youtube, and looking up bands is very quick. Though like with any band.

Well there's more where those came from!

Post 4 by BuckeyeFan92 (Generic Zoner) on Thursday, 30-May-2013 23:17:04

Thanks, both. I know and really like a few of these, so your both right in line with what I'm into. I do really enjoy youtubing new bands, so fire away.

Those two guys took care of the power metal genre pretty well, so let me try and give you a few lesser-known alt. rock bands I'm into.

Digital Summer
Silverstone
My Favorite Scar
Silver From the Flames (highly recommended, they're all kids, the oldest being 15 I believe, and they're really talented)
Signum A.d. (their first album, Music for Morphine, not the new EP with their new horrible singer)
Resident Hero
Red Line Chemistry
Sound of Seasons
Burn Season
American Head Charge

Let me know if I'm heading in the right direction, and I'll dig up some more good ones for you.

Post 6 by BuckeyeFan92 (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 31-May-2013 23:01:03

Yes, Turtle, that's definitely headed in the right direction.

Post 7 by rusty81 (Zone BBS is my Life) on Saturday, 01-Jun-2013 0:15:37

breaking benjamin

Rammstein

and if you like to try to listen to philipino music, try

I know that some of this are old, not as heavy, and quite common. but i like em.

I highly recommend the first four sepultura albums, morbid visions, skitsofrenia, beneath the remains and arise.

Post 9 by BuckeyeFan92 (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 01-Jun-2013 23:17:25

Thanks all. I really like Digital Summer, that was recommended earlier. I got their albums, but got jipped because the poster claimed all the albums were highest quality and two of them were low quality and no one else has them lol. but a lot of good suggestions here.

Post 10 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 02-Jun-2013 0:52:50

The sepultura albums I suggested are from their pre radio friendly period, before chaos a.d record, and deffinatly way before roots bloody roots. Also from flotsam and jetsam, try ttheir first three records, doomsday for the deceiver, no place for disgrace and when the storm comes down. Also check out metal church, their selftitled album, the dark, blessing in disguise, and the human factor.

Post 11 by Winterfresh (This is who I am, an what I am about. If you don't like it, too damn bad!!!) on Sunday, 02-Jun-2013 14:47:02

Definitely Nightwish and within Temptation. There's just somethin about European metal bands with really awesome bad ass chick singers lol. Hmmmm. Domin is good, Idk what genre in which they'd be classified though.

Post 12 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 02-Jun-2013 15:23:08

Like I said in quicknotes, benedictum is also another group, they have a female vocalist, but imagine said vocalist with some of the trates of rob halford and matt barlow mixed together, that's what benedictum's vocalist is like.

Post 13 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Sunday, 02-Jun-2013 16:57:44

Now that I have to check out. Never heard of Benedictum before.
Ok, some more rock bands I like, and hell yes, Digital Summer is amazing. I really want to see them live.

Cold Driven
Dead by April
Against all Will
Slaves on Dope
Smile Empty Soul
Diecast
Fall of Envy
Silent Civilian
Royal Bliss
Atlantic Avenue
Saturate
The 7 Method
Stutterfly
Janus

That should keep you busy for awhile, lol.

Post 14 by Remy (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 02-Jun-2013 18:15:48

I agree that Silver from the Flames are quite talented. Just looked them up. I really enjoy vocal rock like that. They sound similar to Breaking Benjamin, probably one of my favorite bands of that genre.

Post 15 by GreenTurtle (Music is life. Love. Vitality.) on Monday, 03-Jun-2013 0:44:22

That comparison didn't really cross my mind. The kid's voice isn't nearly as powerful as Ben's, not to mention the subject matter of the lyrics is, in my opinion at least, probably based on video games. Ben may be a hardcore gamer, but as far as I'm aware, he didn't write his lyrics about gaming, but who knows? I can see how you got that from the instrumentation, maybe, but I'm not sure who I would compare them to, personally.

For more power metal and thrash.

Post 17 by Runner229 (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Monday, 03-Jun-2013 15:50:47

Thanks for all these and for this topic, Nick. I'm in the same boat as you, so I'll have to check these all out as well. Breaking Benjamin is awesome. I'm a big fan of tool as well, but I'm pissed because their original music isn't on ITunes. If anyone has tool in their music collection and would like to share it through dropbox, let me know. I'd really appreciate it so I don't have to go out and look for the CD's.

Post 18 by BuckeyeFan92 (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 04-Jun-2013 1:10:18

Yeah, thanks a lot for all these. Rocker, I'd love to have the insane knowledge of different bands you have lol. Yeah Ryan, Breaking Benjamin are one of my favorite bands too. To go off of Ryan's request, If anyone by the way has the digital summer album Counting the Hours, and could send it through dropbox as well, that would be awesome. I can't find that one anywhere.

Post 19 by renegade rocker (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 04-Jun-2013 14:37:34

Oh there's more power and thrash!

Post 20 by BuckeyeFan92 (Generic Zoner) on Tuesday, 04-Jun-2013 19:34:44

Yes, Rocker, it is helping a lot.

Speaking of Digital Summer, check out the side project of the singer, Kyle Winterstein. It's called Tragedy Machine, and while it's a bit more electronic, it's not anything shitty like dubstep or something.
